They didn't just leave it like this...JUST WAIT!
Oak Park Theatre is REBRANDED! Thanks, Mrs. Gehrlein!
Oak Park Theatre has a blog? WHAT? Yes. That is correct.
Saying Goodbye to Constant Theatre Tweets This year we are doing things a little differently. I decided to pull the plug on ALL social media for our theatre program. Why would Mr. Gehrlein do such a silly thing like that in 2016? Here is a little history lesson for you. Theatre existed long before Facebook (shocking, I know). It existed without the internet. It existed without electricity...and people showed up.
I want us to get back to more of a word of mouth focus for our advertising campaign. This people-based method has proved to be the most successful marketing strategy in nearly every context. Don't worry too much. We aren't waging war against technology (but there will be no seeking pokemon in our shows!) and Mr. Gehrlein isn't going to start wearing togas and using only fire to light our shows. Sorry to disappoint.
While I won't be doing any official tweeting or posting about our upcoming shows and events, that doesn't mean you can't! I encourage you to get the word out whatever means necessary!
Ultimately it just means I am focusing our online presence here and getting back to more traditional marketing methods. However, I do want to continue to stay connected and get information out to the school and community so we will be utilizing this nifty theatre website in some new ways...INCLUDING THIS BLOG!
Our Fully-Loaded Season Line Up I am really looking forward to our year starting up again and we have some fantastic shows lined up for you! First We'll dive under the sea with the family favorite, The Little Mermaid, November 3, 4, 5, 6. Next we will kick some butt with our annual Theatre for a Cause show with She Kills Monsters (there will be A LOT of fighting, killing, and yes...monsters), December 1, 2, 3. We will dazzle you beneath the northern lights with the wildly popular romantic comedy Almost, Maine (bring a date!), February 16, 17, 18. In the Spring we will celebrate our student playwrights with the One Act Festival, April 6, 7, 8, 9, and also get to see the world premier of an original full-length play written by Lily Jackson, April 26, & 27. Don't forget to laugh throughout the year with our Improv Team's busy line up: Improv Shows on September 16, December 16, March 3...not to mention our Friday Fun Nights for MainStage shows--they will perform original devised parodies of the show you just watched!
THAT'S A LOT OF THEATRE! I am tired just writing that...how about some summer highlights!
New Traditions & Oak Park at ITF This summer we attended the International Thespian Festival and it was A BLAST! Steven Horn, Carson Egbert, Anthony Cusumano, Nick Majetich, Joey Lake, Sam Thomas, and Ana Blazekovic got to spend a week FULL of theatre with thousands of their closest friends from around the country. We saw some impressive shows, learned from top theatre educators and industry professionals, and made some lasting memories as a group. Ana had the opportunity to share her work in Costume Construction and compete against other designers after her Superior rating at Missouri State Conference and we are SO PROUD! If you are wondering if you should attend ITF 2017...the answer is yes.
Oak Park Students at MFAA Dean Foreman & Annie Bensyl represented Oak Park Theatre at the annual Missouri Fine Arts Academy and got to immerse themselves with other artists from around the state to improve their craft and increase their passion! Erin Hill also attended representing Choir (watch her talk about it to the left!) Want to know more? Ask them about it!
Oak Park Goes Disney To all you would-be mermaids and mermen out there, Auditions are coming up the third week of school, August 29-September 2! So get out your fins and practice your...swimming? No, we will not be making it rain again (been there, done that). In all seriousness we can't wait to bring this Disney favorite to the Oak Park stage!
Oak Park Theatre (And the WHOLE SCHOOL) gets a face-lift This summer was a busy time for Oak Park High School. The entire school got a new coat of paint, new carpets, updates to HVAC, new ceiling tile and lighting...oh and an entire renovation to our Little Theater! Our tiny little black box is now far more acoustically sound with new black acoustic paneling, a new carpet, new audience lights, and the best part...NEW SEATING! The previously uncomfortable benches now boast a re-appolstered seat and lumbar support. The walls and ceiling has been blacked out and it truly feels like the magical theatre laboratory it should be...cannot wait to enjoy the new space with you on September 16th for our first Improv Show!
Thank you for stopping by our first blog post! There will be many more to come (not all written by me!) so stay tuned and enjoy the last remaining shreds of freedom you have!
It's going to be an unforgettable year.
Make good choices, brush your teeth, and support the arts.
